GOING TO THE DOCTOR
The following symptoms can be present in a person with Testosterone Deficiency. It is important to note that symptoms in the following list varies from person to person.For example, it is possible to have a strong libido and still be Testosterone Deficient.
Symptoms in Adult males.
Low Energy – Lethargy – Mood Swings – Low Libido – Dry Skin – “Brain Fog” – Aggression – Obesity – Depression – Hypertension/anxiety – Increased Clumsiness – erectile Dysfunction.
Symptoms In Babies and children
Low birth Weight for pregnancy term – Learning Problems – Undescended Testicles – Chronic Illness – Parental alcohol, or substance abuse, Hereditary conditions.1,
The Tests
If you suspect you have a Testosterone problem, you need to get the following initial tests done.
- Serum Testosterone – The total Testosterone produced by the body
- Luteinising Hormone (LH) – The “messenger” between Pituitary gland and Testicles.
- Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) – The “fertility hormone” for men and women
- Prolactin – Measures the Pituitary Gland Function.
- Serum Testosterone, LH and FSH results should be read in conjunction with each other in order to diagnose a declining testosterone production system, and the likely source of the problem.
It is that patient’s right to know the results of tests, and this is encouraged. Correct analysis of those results are key in determining the future course of action. - What Next?
Dependent on the results of the initial tests, it may be necessary to carry out further tests before an appropriate therapy can be prescribed.
It is only when the above tests prove the testicles are failing and cannot produce more Testosterone, that Testosterone therapy should be prescribed straight away. - Testicular failure is indicated when Serum Testosterone is nearing the lower end of, or below, its lab range and LH and FSH are elevating towards the upper end of, or above, their respective ranges.
